Wet n Wild – “Limitless”

This is definitely one of those better-in-the-bottle polishes. Also: Woe. My tragically short nails, the aftermath of an encounter with a stack of heavy books.

Here we go: Limitless, numbered 445C, is probably a remainder or a formula that just didn’t make the cut for Wet n Wild’s main line of Wild Shine polishes. It came in a pack of 10 polishes for $4.99 at CVS.

In the bottle, this appears to be a very pale, grayed-out blue creme, like the color of a wintry sky. Lovely! Pale multicolored iridescent glitter is scattered liberally throughout the base. Limitless, indeed. I’m utterly enamored of this polish in the bottle. It’s quite beautiful.

But on the fingernail, it is not pretty. Pictured above are four coats, yet visible nail line and streaks remain. Moreover, that glitter, small and translucent though it may be, is lumpy. I have painted on a thick topcoat, but the glitter lumps remain. So what this really looks like on my hands is watery white potter’s clay studded with glitter. Not very flattering.

Now, I could certainly put on five or six coats of Limitless and probably achieve bottle color, and get a smooth shine with a sturdy topcoat. But I — and most of you ladies and gents out there — have better things to do than wait for 6+ coats of nail polish to dry completely.

So, with the winter sky in mind (as I love winter best of all seasons), I’d like to direct you to Diana’s “Blueberry Paradise” manicure at Painted Lady Fingers. This polish is much darker than Limitless, but perfectly matched to the sky in her photographs.
